In another first for the LGSO, we are contributing to the current orchestral repertoire by commissioning a piece. Wayne Oquin is a talented composer on the faculty of The Julliard School of Music, and will be in Southern Wisconsin for a residency involving the LGSO and area schools. Delavan's Dance Factory joins the orchestra to perform a suite from Aaron Copland's ballet Billy the Kid, which depicts the American West through music. Finally, "The Beethoven Project" continues with his lighthearted Symphony No. 8. Purchase tickets . . .
We end our journey in the British Isles. William Walton’s piece, known for being heard at British royal ceremonies, will open the evening, and Brant Taylor, cellist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will join the LGSO in one of the most beloved Romantic concertos. Malcolm Arnold was from England, but pays tribute to Scotland in his charming Scottish Dances, and the evening closes in a grand way with Holst’s The Planets. Purchase tickets . . .
