This Sunday afternoon performance is the culmination of a multi-day conductor’s workshop led by master pedagogue Donald Schleicher from the University of Illinois. Hosting a workshop is rare for a community orchestra, but this is something that fits the educational mission of the LGSO, both in terms of helping young conductors refine their craft, but also in showing them a community orchestra that plays at an exceptionally high level. Participating conductors will conduct the LGSO earlier in the week under Mr. Schleicher’s instruction. Then they will watch him demonstrate the concepts they have explored in a concert setting. Music Director David Anderson conducts the first half of the concert, which will also feature Rockford Symphony Orchestra principal flute
player Scott Metlicka.
